DIY: How to Care for Natural or Perm Hair

Natural hair is naturally prone to dryness and requires special care to maintain overall healthiness.
For moisture, the best treatment for a pre-shampoo treatment and daily moisturizer is an Organic Virgin coconut oil. The reason why this oil is so special is because it actually penetrates the hair shaft to moisturize the hair from the inside out. How to use Organic coconut oil as a pre-shampoo:
-Apply to scalp and hair
-Cover with a plastic cap
-Leave on hair for 30 minutes without heat (or 15 minutes with heat)
-Then rinse, shampoo, and condition as usual.

If you want to use a water-based moisturizer instead of Organic coconut oil, you can use any light oil moisturizer following the application of an water based moisturizer to seal moisture in the shaft.

Gentle shampoos and regular treatments are essential.
Sulfates are very harsh and may strip and dry out your hair. These should only be contained in your clarifying shampoo (which you should use only once per month at the most, followed by a protein treatment)

You can make your own protein treatment at home by adding an egg to your regular conditioner, then mixing it into your hair and then cover with a plastic cap for 1 hour. (NO HEAT WITH EGG BECAUSE THE HEAT WILL COOK THE EGG) This treatment should work with 1-2 treatments. Conditioner protein product, you should apply it to your hair, cover with a plastic cap go under a heated dryer with a plastic cap for 10-15 minutes. This will improve your hair strength and stop breakage within a few treatment.
